WE'RE IN LOVE
WITH WELLNESS

We started trading in salts back when the family company first launched in 1976. It wasn’t until we had the realisation that salts were beneficial to bathe in that we decided to completely change our direction. In doing so we quickly launched our core range of health and wellbeing, restorative bath salts including our SaltsAndCo Australia Epsom Salts, Epsom and Pink Himalayan Salts and Magnesium Flakes (for the ultimate bathing experience).

Since this realisation what a journey it has been; 44 years on SaltsAndCo Australia is still run by the same Australian family (with a few new family members to welcome to the team) and has gone from strength to strength in selling our range of salt and salt related products.

WHY SALT BATHS?

Magnesium, found in Epsom Salts and Magnesium Flakes,  is an essential mineral for both the mind and body, and actively contributes to a feeling of wellness.

What we don't realise is that a combination of our modern lifestyle, refined diet and intense exercise quickly depletes our own natural stores of magnesium making us feel tired, slowing muscle recovery and even affecting our natural sleep patterns.

Here at SaltsAndCo Australia we aim to relieve the burden that many of us carry through magnesium deficiency with a range of Epsom Salts and Magnesium rich products that are gentle enough for daily use*.

Whether it be adding our SaltsAndCo Epsom Salts to your next warm bath or applying our SaltsAndCo Magnesium Oil Spray directly to the skin, our range of products can increase your bodies own magnesium stores to get you back to feeling good*.

SALTS AND CO
EPSOM vs MAGNESIUM

Typically magnesium is  more readily absorbed into the body making it  ideal for athletes and/or people suffering a magnesium deficiency while epsom salts, being a form of magnesium, is a milder way to top up your magnesium levels.

SALTSANDCO EPSOM SALTS

Epsom salt, or its compound name magnesium sulfate,  is a form of magnesium. Epsom salts are commonly used in the detoxification process whereby the sulfate component helps to draw heavy metals and toxins out of the body while the magnesium component acts as a muscle relaxant.

Epsom salts are traditionally used in baths, but can be safely ingested as well (if food-grade). As magnesium can be absorbed through the skin, while you are relaxing in an epsom salt bath, your skin will be soaking up the goodness. Epsom salt benefits are vast and can help relax and rejuvenate tired limbs leaving you feeling refreshed and energised.

SALTSANDCO MAGNESIUM FLAKES

Magnesium flakes (technically called magnesium chloride), is the compound you find in all Magnesium supplements.

Magnesium typically comes from seawater and is often offered to those with severe magnesium deficiencies.

Magnesium chloride has a different molecular structure to epsom salts and is more easily absorbed into the body. So while both epsom salts and magnesium flakes are wonderful, the effects of magnesium chloride are much more intense.

HEALTH + WELLBEING

Who doesn't want to bathe like the Romans, relax and soak away the day. Whilst we might not have a hot spring on our doorstep - it doesn't mean you can't create your own SaltsAndCo Australia DIY day spa at home and let your body reap the benefits of a rejuvenating hot spring.

The benefits of these salt baths have been used since ancient times with magnesium an essential mineral for maintaining good health.

MUSCLE SORENESS

Many athletes swear by magnesium for post-workout recovery. Even those of us who aren’t high-level athletes can benefit from using magnesium after workouts with studies indicating that magnesium may help reduce muscle cramping by replenishing magnesium levels lost through exercise.

HEADACHES + MIGRAINES

There is a lot of research about magnesium’s importance for those who suffer from headaches or migraines. While magnesium isn’t an acute treatment for symptom relief, studies indicate that those who have optimal levels of cellular magnesium have fewer instances of headaches and migraines.

BALANCING BLOOD SUGAR

There is research linking magnesium with balanced blood sugar levels. Excess sugar consumption depletes magnesium levels in the body. Having unbalanced blood sugar and insulin levels may deplete magnesium. This in-turn makes it more difficult to properly balance blood sugar and insulin. While magnesium is not a treatment for diabetes or blood sugar imbalance, studies show that magnesium may play an important part in the holistic approach to blood sugar management.

SLEEP

There’s a good reason why epsom salt baths are commonly used for relaxation. Magnesium is reported to have a beneficial affect on GABA receptors in the brain. This allows a person to relax and sleep easily and possibly deeper. It is important to note that a small segment of people seem to notice the opposite affect and wake up from magnesium supplementation. These people should, of course, not take magnesium at night.

ANXIETY

A number of studies conducted over the years have suggested that taking magnesium for anxiety can work rather well. Research finds that individuals suffering from feelings of panic and fear can dramatically reduce these feelings when they increase their magnesium intake.

Magnesium has proven its efficacy at alleviating the symptoms of most types of anxiety and stabilising one’s mood, whilst simultaneously providing feelings of calm and a sense of well-being.  Due to the fact that it acts as a nervous system relaxant, magnesium is often cited as being an important mineral to assist with fear, restlessness, and worry.

*If you're experiencing any of the above symptoms or believe you may have a magnesium deficiency we recommend you talk to your doctor or health care professional who based on a complete assessment can recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
